What Is a Mommy Makeover? Do I Need One?
Pregnancy is one of life’s most remarkable transformations. Inside of your body, a tiny human grew, and life was created. However, carrying another body inside your own takes a toll on the appearance, especially the midsection and breasts. Add in hormonal fluctuations and multiple pregnancies, and your body may be unrecognizable when compared to its pre-pregnancy shape. Saggy breasts, loose skin, excess fat, and abdominal muscle separation are common post-pregnancy body complaints. A mommy makeover addresses these issues and more.
How do we reverse pregnancy-related body changes? We’ve combined some of our most popular post-pregnancy surgical procedures, including tummy tuck, breast lift, breast augmentation, and liposuction. These procedures are performed together during a single surgery or staggered across a couple of operations if necessary. Our mommy makeover helps women to feel confident in their body’s appearance after pregnancy again.
Only you can decide if a mommy makeover will benefit you. Are you confident and comfortable with your post-baby appearance? Do you miss youthful, perky breasts or a tight, flat tummy? If pregnancy changed your body in ways that you don’t appreciate, explore your options with us.
Standard Procedures in Our Mommy Makeover
Body changes are inevitable with pregnancy, but these changes aren’t always consistent. Some women experience lots of stretch marks and loose skin in the abdominal area after a single pregnancy. Other women have minimal abdominal changes but extensive breast sagging. You may find yourself struggling with fat that you can’t seem to lose. Each patient works directly with Dr. Chaudhry to plan their mommy makeover. We’ll focus on the procedures you need to achieve your goals and skip those that aren’t necessary.
Although each mommy makeover is customized, many women opt for some or all of the following plastic surgery procedures:
- Tummy Tuck: The abdomen expands rapidly during pregnancy, leading to stretch marks, a loss of skin elasticity, muscle separation, and pelvic weakness. A tummy tuck can restore a flatter, tighter tummy. A tummy tuck tightens the tummy, removes many stretch marks from the lower abdomen, and strengthens the core.
- Breast Lift: Many women find that their breast shape changes with pregnancy, becoming flattered on the top, longer, and heavier at the front of the breast. A breast lift reshapes and repositions the breast tissues with carefully placed incisions on the breast. It restores a rounder, perkier breast shape. This procedure is often paired with implants to increase breast size at the same time.
- Breast Augmentation: For a bump up in breast size, breast augmentation is the way to go. Many of our moms have always wanted larger breasts. Breast implants can often be placed through the incisions for a breast lift if these two procedures are performed together. Breast implants are made from saline or silicone and provide long-lasting volume to the breast area.
- Liposuction: Stubborn post-baby fat can be hard to lose on your own; liposuction is ideal for your trouble spots. We find that liposuction works best when patients have already lost most of their baby weight.
Personalized care is a focus of our practice. You won’t feel pressured to receive procedures you don’t need or want. We provide the information and encourage our patients to choose the options that work best.
Mommy Makeover Recovery
Our mommy makeovers typically include various surgical procedures, which means that a recovery period will be necessary. We’ll help figure out what to expect during your consultation. Timelines for recovery vary depending on the procedures you select and the extent of the procedures.
As a general guideline, plan on missing 1-2 weeks of work and limiting exercise, physical activity, and heavy lifting for 4-6 weeks. Soreness, tenderness, bruising, and swelling are commonly experienced during recovery. Pain medications may be needed to help you feel comfortable while you rest and heal.
If you can’t commit to recovery right now, ask us about non-surgical options for rejuvenation. These won’t yield the dramatic results of a mommy makeover but can help smooth wrinkles and brighten skin until you’re ready for a more in-depth treatment.
