Scar tissue forms whenever the skin is wounded. Whether it is a small skin infection like acne, or a larger wound like a surgical incision, collagen and growth factors are used to repair the skin when it is damaged. Most scars are flat and become almost invisible over time, limited to the boundaries of the original skin wound. Keloid scars are different – they not only are raised like hypertrophic scars, but also grow outside of the wound area. At Be That Beautiful™ Plastic Surgery, we offer keloid scar removal at our Beverly Hills clinic.

Anyone can form a keloid scar, but it is more common in those with darker skin and in teens or younger adults. When a keloid forms, the scar tissue continues to accumulate and spread. The size of the wound does not matter – many people have keloids from ear or nose piercings. In some cases, the keloid scar can become very large and disfiguring over time. About 10-15% of scars are keloid. If you have a scar that continues to grow and moves outside of the original wound boundary, you may have a keloid. Keloids tend to be brown, pink or reddish in color and shiny.

Keloid scar removal is not as simple as removing the scar tissue with typical scar revision surgery. Those with keloids are likely to develop another keloid from the surgery. It is important to have a keloid scar removal specialist perform this procedure, someone like Dr. Obaid Chaudhry at Be That Beautiful™ Plastic Surgery.

Keloid Scar Revision

Keloid scar revision surgery is complex, but it can be effective in removing a keloid formation. Dr. Chaudhry uses a combination of medications, skin treatments and surgical methods to remove keloids and prevent the formation of another keloid scar. Steroids, laser treatments, cryotherapy and surgical excision are all options for removing keloid tissue and improving the appearance of the skin after the scar is removed.

Keloid scars can be frustrating, but there are treatment options available. To learn more about keloid scar removal, contact us at Be That Beautiful™ Plastic Surgery. We can schedule a keloid removal consultation with Dr. Chaudhry at our clinic in Los Angeles.
